This marks the seventh year for The Woodlands Bar Association (WBA) to award scholarships to outstanding local high school students. We are pleased to offer two (2) Future Lawyers Scholarships for 2019: the Future Lawyers Scholarship in Memoriam Ida G. Stewart, and the Future Lawyers Scholarship in Memoriam Kevin T. Shea. Applicants must have an interest in attending law school upon completion of an undergraduate program and have aspirations of becoming an attorney. This scholarship program is intended to recognize and encourage a spirit of community involvement and good citizenship among high school students residing in The Woodlands, Texas and surrounding area.
These scholarships are open to all high school students who are residents of The Woodlands and/or Montgomery County at the time of application, regardless of the high school attended (public, private, home school, etc). Applicants must be graduating seniors in good standing at their school at the time of application and must be attending a four (4) year university in the Fall of 2019.
SELECTION CRITERIA: The scholarships will be awarded based upon your application with emphasis on the following criteria:
- Financial need
- Academic Performance
- Extracurricular activities, citizenship & community involvement
- Demonstration of a strong interest to pursue a legal career
One (1) recipient will be awarded a $3,000.00 Scholarship through the Future Lawyers Scholarship in Memoriam Ida G. Stewart, and one (1) separate recipient will be awarded a $3,000.00 Scholarship through the Future Lawyers Scholarship in Memoriam Kevin T. Shea, for a total of two (2) WBA Future Lawyers Scholarship recipients in 2019. Applications will be reviewed by the WBA Scholarship Committee, consisting of at least one (1) WBA Board member. A personal interview of the applicants may also be requested.
Only complete application packets will be considered by the WBA. Completed applications must be received by the WBA no later than 11:00pm on March 1, 2019.
The recipients of the scholarships will be notified of the award by April 1, 2019. The recipients will be presented with an award plaque at the WBA Annual Meeting which will be held in April. The recipients’ attendance at the award ceremony is expected. The actual scholarship award amount will be credited directly to each student’s account at their University once accepted and enrolled.
