WBA Member Ray Burgess to give summer commencement address at SHSU

Congratulations to WBA Member and respected Woodlands attorney Ray Burgess on being selected to address the Sam Houston State University at their 2012 Summer Commencement!  Burgess arrived at Sam Houston State University in 1971 as a high-school standout both academically and athletically at Arlington High School in Nebraska.

A four-year letterman in baseball, he continued this same path while at SHSU, winning the prestigious Gene Waldron award, a national award given yearly to a single junior athlete based upon athletic achievements and academic success. His pitching accomplishments are still recognized in five categories of SHSU baseball records.

Burgess graduated magna cum laude in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in  business administration before attending the University of Houston Law Center, where he received his juris doctorate in 1978.

Since graduation, Burgess has had a successful civil litigation practice, which in recent years he has transitioned into a thriving mediation practice.

He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Defense Research Institute, a charter member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Houston Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, and The Woodlands Bar Association.
